IDENTITY CRISIS AT SPACEXAI: MUSK FIRES THE LETTERS 'A' AND 'I' AT 4 AM SUNDAY, ANNOUNCES 'SPACEXSI'

At 4:07 AM CT on October 4, someone asked Musk about renaming the AI arm 'SpaceXSI.' He replied: "Yes, we will make that change." Three minutes later: "SpaceX is a super intelligence company." The website hasn't caught up. The rename is still official.

Yesterday's disaster

By Noleetah Alset, H.A.T.E. correspondent

We regret to inform you that the letters "A" and "I" have been laid off. Early Sunday, at 3:40 AM CT on October 4, Elon Musk posted three lines on X: "No more AI / SI / It's better." Five minutes later a reply asked whether the AI arm would be renamed SpaceXSI. At 4:07 AM CT Musk answered: "Yes, we will make that change." At 4:10 AM he followed up with "SpaceX is a super intelligence company," just to make sure the branding team never sleeps again.

The damage report so far: one acronym gone, one new one, and a lot of logo files about to be renamed. To be clear, this is an announced change, not a finished one. As of this morning, x.ai/news still says SpaceXAI across the top, and the @SpaceXAI account was still posting under that name as late as Friday. This is a confirmed plan with the paint still wet. Musk was already using the new term on Friday, October 2, when he posted "Super Intelligence (fka AI) is now acing accounting tests." By Sunday evening he had moved on to "Propagating super intelligence to the stars is a great success condition for a biological bootloader." The style guide is going through a rough week.

ELSEWHERE IN THE WRECKAGE

AUSTIN ROBOTAXI NOW RUNS AN EXTRA HOUR, AND KITTENS ARE THE REASON: Late Friday, October 2, the official @robotaxi account posted: "Robotaxi in Austin now available until 11pm." Thirty-five minutes later Musk explained what the extra hour is actually about: "Robotaxi operating hours moved from 10pm to 11pm. The main thing we're trying to solve is making sure that we don't run over pets when they're hard to see at night. Literally trying to avoid grey kittens on grey tarmac in the dark." So the self-driving car company spent the weekend publicly worrying about kittens. The 'robots don't care' crowd will need a new argument.

STARLINK WANTS YOUR NEIGHBOR TO BE YOUR ISP: Starlink's new community-host page (starlink.com/community-host) says: "One Starlink Kit delivers high-speed internet to multiple users nearby. Neighbors pay for flexible hour, day, week, or month passes — and you earn from every connection." There are four passes. Hour, Day and Week each cover one device, and the Month pass covers up to four. "Starlink takes care of payments, user access, and connectivity." Starlink is taking host applications through an interest form. Prices aren't posted yet. One dish, a whole block of customers, and Starlink handles the billing. Somewhere, a cable company's customer-retention department just sat down.

THE BORING COMPANY IS RUNNING TWO MACHINES UNDER NASHVILLE: The company's October 1 Music City Loop update says: "Prufrock-MB1 and Prufrock-MB2 are actively tunneling, Prufrock-MB3 will launch in late October, and Prufrock-MB4 is being built! The team is pushing to have four tunnel boring machines in the ground before the end of the year!" MB1 has picked up "over 300 upgrades." Nashville may wake up to find there's a highway under it.

Also in the pile: on October 2 SpaceX posted photos of Starship releasing Starlink V3 satellites on Flight 14, captioned "Starship's first orbital flight delivered 26 Starlink V3 satellites to space." Starlink had said on launch day that the payload would add "up to 26 Terabits" of capacity. XChat added Grok to group chats ("Get answers to your questions directly in XChat by asking Grok"), and Musk's entire review was "Ask @Grok in XChat."

The compli-insult pivot

Credit where it's cruel

Here's the painful part: none of this is a scandal. Musk announced the SpaceXSI rename himself, on the record, in three posts before sunrise Sunday. The site still says SpaceXAI, so it's a plan, not a finished rebrand. Austin Robotaxi got an extra hour, and the stated reason is not hitting grey kittens. Starlink published a host program where neighbors buy hour, day, week or month passes and Starlink handles the payments. The Boring Company has two machines tunneling under Nashville at the same time, with a third due in late October. Snarky, yes. Made up, no. The receipts are below.

Breaking from the desk. Two letters have been fired. Early Sunday morning, October fourth, Elon Musk posted: "No more A-I. S-I. It's better." Someone asked whether the A-I arm would be renamed SpaceX-S-I. At four-oh-seven a.m. Central, Musk replied: "Yes, we will make that change." Three minutes later: "SpaceX is a super intelligence company." Important footnote: this is an announced change. As of this morning, the website still says SpaceX-A-I. The plan is official. The paint is still wet. Also this weekend: Robotaxi in Austin now runs until eleven p.m., up from ten. Musk explained the hard part of driving at night: "Literally trying to avoid grey kittens on grey tarmac in the dark." The robots are working late, and they're watching out for kittens. And Starlink posted a community-host program. One Starlink kit, several neighbors nearby. They buy hour, day, week, or month passes, and Starlink handles the payments. The month pass covers up to four devices. Prices haven't been posted. Under Nashville, the Boring Company has two tunnel machines digging at the same time. A third launches in late October, and the goal is four in the ground by the end of the year. Snarky, yes. Made up, no. Receipts are in the edition. This is H.A.T.E. correspondent No-lee-tah Al-set.

Short X post

Devastating: at 4:07 AM CT Sunday, Musk confirmed the AI arm will be renamed SpaceXSI ("Yes, we will make that change"). The website still says SpaceXAI, so it's an announced change. Also this weekend: Austin Robotaxi now runs until 11 PM (Musk: avoiding "grey kittens on grey tarmac in the dark"), and Starlink posted a community-host program where neighbors buy hour, day, week or month passes. H.A.T.E. Vol. 1, No. 17.

Website hook

Two letters lost their jobs before sunrise Sunday. The robotaxis are working late so they can watch out for kittens. Your neighbor might be about to sell you internet by the hour. Nobody is taking questions.

Video concept

Deadpan desk. Behind the anchor, a giant 'SpaceXAI' sign. A crew member on a ladder pries off the 'A', hesitates, and tapes up an 'S'. Chyron: BREAKING: ACRONYM DOWN. Mid-segment slate: ROBOTAXI 11 PM / MIND THE KITTENS. End card: SPACEX(S)I. THE LETTERHEAD WAS NOT CONSULTED.
